Thomas D. Calkins
With the firm since 1990, Mr. Calkins has practiced law for over 30 years and has experience in wills and trusts, estate administration, estate planning, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, employment law, and employment litigation.
He has formed and advised multiple businesses, represented clients buying and selling businesses of all sizes, and handled both simple and complex estates. Mr. Calkins also has a strong background in representing employers in federal or state employment disputes, including lawsuits involving non-competition agreements, discrimination, and harassment.
As an American Bar Association member, he is also a member of the organization’s Labor and Employment, Real Property, and Probate and Trust sections. Mr. Calkins is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (member of Labor and Employment Law section) and of the Gainesville-Northeastern Circuit Bar Association.
Mr. Calkins is a past chair of the University of North Georgia Foundation and an honorary lifetime trustee. He is a former elder and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Georgia. Mr. Calkins has served as chair of the Gainesville Area Employers Committee, a board member for the North Georgia Community Foundation, and a board member for the Quinlan Visual Arts Center. Mr. Calkins a Past-President of the Rotary Club of Gainesville, Georgia.
With a B.B.A. degree in management from Emory University, Mr. Calkins has a J.D. degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. He is married to Maria Calkins, and they have three children, Charles, Sydney, and Camille.
